Question: How long should my blog post be?
Answer: As long as it needs to be.
I might as well end this article there; but let’s dig a little deeper.
Truth is, there’s no hard and fast rule on content length.
Some experts say write as few as 200 words; while others encourage you to write as much as 3,000 words.
Which of them is right?
What I’ve found is that when people write for word-count; they’re often put in a situation of constant awareness on the wrong things — paying attention to the number of words rather than focusing on the essence of the message.
And so here’s what I tell my clients: Just write until you’re done with what you have to say.
Your goal is to express a complete thought; so that anyone reading your article can understand exactly what you’re saying.
If you’re able to fully articulate the message in 100 words; then that’s all you need. If you need 700 words, go for it. Don’t be fixated on the number.
As you keep practicing over time with various content lengths, you’ll find your authentic voice which then influences how long your average post will come to be.
For me, I never count how many words I write. I simply write.
And for this post, I’m done writing.
