Many people ask the question — what’s the 1 biggest thing I can do to improve myself (or my business, relationships, etc.)
The answer: Ruthlessly eliminate hurry.
Do everything you can to avoid being in a hurry.
‘Cos when you’re in a hurry, you miss the joys of the present moment.
Being in a hurry causes you to make short-term decisions at the expense of long-term goals & rewards.
When you’re in a hurry, everything & everyone else seems to be in your way.
And so, you have no time to slow down & harness the awesome power of NOW.
I’ll give just 1 example to illustrate this point.
***** Example of how being in a hurry ruins relationships.
I always used to be in a hurry when getting my 4-year old twins ready for school in the morning.
Everything they did seemed to happen at a slow pace to me; and I was constantly in their ears to speed it up.
One day, my daughter said, “Daddy, please this is too fast for me.” Ouch. That was a sobering moment for me.
I held her tight & apologized for my madness.
But then it got me thinking — Why am I in a hurry in the first place? Of course, the answer is that I didn’t want them to be late to school.
Okay fine, then why not wake up 15 minutes or 30 minutes earlier so that you don’t have to rush?
Writing about it now, it kinda seems obvious. But I never thought that such a simple change would have that kind of significant impact and give me the chance to spend more quality time with my kids & never have to hurry them for no reason.
Long story short, I made the change & it’s been bliss ever since then.
How does this apply to you? What little thing can you change to stop being in a hurry & start enjoying each moment?
And how would your business be improved if you could stop being in a hurry?
I see many business owners who are not willing to invest in themselves & work with a coach who can improve their business in 6 months —- because they feel it’s such a long time & they need results “faster”.
Yet, speak with them 1 year later, and they’re still at the same place you left them. I see this every time & it leaves me baffled.
If it was so easy to do & 6 months was a long time to work with a coach, how come they haven’t changed anything in a year?
In fact, why have they been dealing with the issues for several years if it was something that could be solved in 1 split second?
Answer — Because they’re always in a hurry with life. And so they miss out on opportunities right under their nose.
Don’t let that be you.
New Year Resolutions don’t work. But if you really want to make a resolution for 2020 — then let it be this:
To ruthlessly eliminate hurry in my life.
